Balaji Pop Rings: Cheese or Masala?

Two bowls of ring-shaped snacks on a slate board, one pale cheese-coloured and one orange masala-coloured.

Balaji Pop Rings are crisp, ring-shaped snacks sold in two flavours on our shelf: Yummy Cheese and Masala. Each pack is 65 g and listed at $0.99. They are not potato chips, and they are not the same product as Kurkure puffcorn, which is a different brand and a different shape.

Searches often drop the space and the brand (“popring”, “pop ring balaji”, “cheese pop rings”). All of those point at these two bags. We do not stock a third flavour under this name.

Balaji Pop Rings in yummy cheese

The cheese pack is the pale ring. Our product notes describe it as a cornmeal ring with a cheese coating, light enough that a 65 g bag disappears beside chai. It is not tagged farali, and it is not tagged no garlic, no onion. Treat it as an everyday cheese snack.

The listing is Balaji Pop Ring (Yummy Cheese), 65 g. If you are comparing photos, the cheese rings look paler than the masala rings. The bag colour is the thing to check at the shelf, because both packs are the same weight and the same price.

Balaji Pop Rings in masala

The masala pack is the spiced ring: savoury, with chilli and tang, still a dry coating rather than a sauce. Same 65 g, same $0.99 list price. The listing is Balaji Pop Ring (Masala), 65 g.

Choose masala if the cheese flavour tastes flat to you, or if you want the ring to sit next to a plain khakhra without the plate going sweet. Choose cheese if you want the milder bag for children or for a desk drawer. Neither pack is a meal.

Pop rings and puffcorn

Kurkure Puffcorn Yummy Cheese is a separate snack: puffed corn pieces, 55 g, listed at $1.29, brand Kurkure. People search the two names together because both are cheese-flavoured and both are light. The texture is different. Rings are hoops. Puffcorn is a short puff.

If the search was for the cheese puff, go to Kurkure Puffcorn Yummy Cheese. If the search was for rings, stay with the two Balaji packs above. The Balaji brand page is where the rings sit with katak batak, wafers, and the rest of the line.

How many packs to buy

One 65 g pack is a personal snack. For a table of four, three or four packs is a normal amount, and you can mix cheese and masala in the same bowl if you say so before you pour. Once they are mixed, you cannot sort them back.

They stay crisp in a closed bag. An open bag in a humid kitchen softens by the next afternoon. Clip it, or finish it. Pickup is at 40 Fountainhead Road, North York, and GTA delivery follows the $50 line in our terms.
